"Guanaco" from Windy Valley Muskox is a supersoft yarn crafted of 40% guanaco, 40% merino wool & 20% silk. A guanaco is a prehistoric ancestor of the domestic llama & alpaca and is also related to the camel & the vicuna. It is classified as an endangered species by CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species). Special certification & licensure is required of guanaco breeders located primarily in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile & Peru. The fiber, which comes from the guanaco's undercoat, is so rare & exotic that it's available in only its natural color & only in a blended yarn. No wonder the company calls it "the soft secret of Patagonia" on its label! "Guanaco" can be used in all patterns currently available from Windy Valley Muskox Yarn.
