I am confused as to how a heavy worsted weight yarn can have 50 stitches to 4 inches as its guage.

I was also confused but have since found out there are 13sts = 4" (10cm)

I just learned to knit and I chose this yarn for my first project. I used 6 balls of black and one of off white. It was great yarn to work with, and the finished scarf is very attractive (if I do say so myself!)

Yeah, you're correct it is 13sts=4 in. Also, if you haven't checked out the new colors for Alfa yet-I highly suggest that you do. They are great!
