I'd hesitate to use this for something where stitch definition is required. It will look OK while you are working it, but over time the softness of the alpaca will cause the stitches to lose definition. A wonderfully soft yarn for working in stockinette, though, and a good value.

I just started Knitty's Branching Out with this. Not sure if it'll show the pattern enough after blocking, but wow! is it ever soft. I got mine at Little Knits http://www.littleknits.com/ . She's very nice.
